Mings Bings – A Crunchy Wrap That Puts A Modern Twist on Traditional Bings!
Hello friends!
I don’t know about you all, but when I am browsing social media, I am always on the lookout for new products to try, ESPECIALLY if they’re gluten-free.
Mings Bings have been showing up across my social media FOR MONTHS. They are advertised as a “modern twist on a traditional bing” by Chef Ming Tsai who wanted to create a better for you, plant forward food option after realizing that there just aren’t that many flavorful options on the market that are both plant-forward and gluten-free. You have to admire that :).
Unfortunately for me, I haven’t been able to get a hold of them for MONTHS. Well, until this past weekend when I was at both Woodman’s and Target!
So this week we’ll be talking about my thoughts on Mings Bings!
For more information regarding their story and where you can buy them, please check out their website right -> here!
Let’s Talk About Mings Bings…
What is Mings Bings?
Mings Bings are these crunchy wraps that have a filling. They are handheld snacks, I would say. These come in a variety of flavors ranging from Sausage, Egg, and Cheese, to Plant-Based Sausage and Peppers. With many others in between.
These are located in the freezer aisle and can be cooked in a number of ways. My favorite way is using the air fryer. Let it air fry for 10-12 minutes and you are left with a crunchy and flaky (in the best way) pocket full of tasty filling.
If you’re looking for a comparison–think of a better for you hot pocket that has better texture and better for you ingredients. 🙂
What Does It Taste Like?
Obviously, this would depend on the filling of the Mings Bing, but from the ones that I have tried…they taste quite good. My stores appear to just be getting in more stock, so I haven’t had a chance to try all the super exciting flavors like Buffalo Chicken or even the Supreme Pizza flavors. Talk about a fun spin on a pizza pocket!
The Sausage Egg and Cheese Mings Bings has all the ingredients, including potato! I thought that was a nice touch. What really impressed me was the texture. While the filling texture wasn’t my favorite, the actual brown rice bing was INSANE! It was flaky and crunchy and really worked well against the softer filling. If it were mush, I would have been very upset because if texture isn’t right…I just can’t do it. So a big plus to Mings Bings for rocking a beautiful crunchy texture on a frozen food item. Nice!!
Flavor-wise…from what I’ve tasted, these are seasoned quite well, but with just enough room for you to add some hot sauce, if that’s more your jam. 🙂 I am just so dang curious about the more bold flavors. I’ll have to pick them up when I see them!
How Are These Priced?
You knew this was coming. A frozen gluten-free and GOOD FOR YOU product.
At Target, these are priced at $6.49.
In each box, you get 2 Bings.
That’s just…look, I get it, healthy costs more and I sincerely hope that we get to a place in the world where it doesn’t cost so much more to maker healthier and gluten-free options, especially for those who actually need it…for medical reasons! But when I record these reviews and try these products, I am thinking of the families who have more than just two people in their household.
These aren’t that large, so I would’t even suggest splitting them. It’s just…it’s just little things like this that add up. If you’re a smaller family and just want to keep something like this on hand for a quick on-the-go type of snack–sure, that works! The best part is that these are frozen, so there isn’t a rush in terms of shelf life.
Grey’s Final Thoughts
I think these are absolutely an innovative and delicious product that is made accessible to those who have certain dietary needs. It’s so exciting to see more gluten-free and plant-forward products coming to the market that don’t taste bland and just…stereotypically “healthy”. Ya know?
I think this is a great option for people on the go who need that quick handheld snack to get them through their day.
The only thing that I will say…and this has remained a constant with my reviews it seems…is the dang price. And I don’t blame this on the creators behind Mings Bings–NOT AT ALL. This is just an issue with the industry. There are so many people out there who would love to participate in enjoying these products, but sometimes they’re just not in the budget. So, I hope one day soon we’ll see these yummy products made available just as easily as the 50 count of pizza pockets that sell for under $10 ;).
What I’d like for you to take from this: Mings Bings is a fantastic product that is ABSOLUTELY worth trying. Just know what you’re getting and how much it costs…and know that I will be hunting down the rest of these flavors…because they honestly sound so freaking good!!
