Loot Fright: A Spooky Themed Subscription

Heard of Loot Crate? Let’s Talk About Loot Fright!

Hello friends!

Since October of 2023, I’ve been signed up with Loot Fright–a bi-monthly subscription box from the same main company as…Loot Crate! While Loot Crate focuses on pop-culture and comic merchandise, Loot Fright is centered more around horror movie collectibles and merchandise! Whether it’s old Hollywood monsters or popular horror films, this subscription checked the boxes.

All three deliveries included collectibles centered around classic monster movies: Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Creature From the Black Lagoon. While I am not an avid fan of classic monsters, I certainly do appreciate them for the sake of horror history.

Before we dive in, if you want to check out Loot Fright already, you can find the subscription information right -> here!

How Much Does Loot Fright Cost?

Loot Fright costs 34.99 USD + Tax, every other month. You typically get 3-5 items, which include a t-shirt (…we’ll talk about this further down). In general, this is a really great deal for some awesome collectibles. But before you scroll back up to subscribe, I urge you to keep reading. 🙂

Is The Quality of Merch Any Good?

The items that I received over the course of three crates were pretty good. I’d compare them to the quality of any store like Hot Topic or Box Lunch. Shirts, socks, collectibles–definitely satisfied my requirement of being “good quality”. They didn’t look or feel cheap and they arrived in good condition. I would like to point out that I felt strongly about this for the first two deliveries. I LOVED the t-shirts that were included and every other item was fantastic. Whether it was a great collectible, or a pair of socks, I found great value in what was delivered.

I make a point to mention the first two crates…the third, however…okay…I suppose we’re getting into this now.

My first two crates from Loot Fright were FANTASTIC. I thought they were worth every penny. So when the third shipping notification came along, I was expecting the same box that was labeled nicely as well as 4-5 items, that included a t-shirt. Honestly, just an overall theme would have been nice.

The third “crate” arrived in a plastic envelope that had 3 items stuffed into it. There was no clear labeling, so this strange method of delivery made it seem like it wasn’t from Loot Fright or maybe it was a split delivery. I truly wanted to give Loot Fright the benefit of the doubt because I enjoyed the first two crates so much.

(Loot Fright’s Response To Their Shipping Change)

Unfortunately, after reaching out to their support, this might not have been a one-time occurrence? I really hope so, but it was just a bit off-putting when the other crates have been fine. Now, I understand that sometimes changes need to be made in order to save money–that’s UNDERSTANDABLE, but doing so without providing an update to people who are spending money on your product? Sorry, but that’s not the customer experience I’m after.

After that delivery, I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be recording my final review. I suppose it’s a good thing, because I was able to capture this change before recommending this subscription to everyone.

Is Loot Fright Worth Signing Up For?

In all honestly, I was prepared to say yes up until the final delivery. I wanted so much to share the joy of this service to my horror film loving readers. Now…I would ask you all to exercise caution. I’d recommend checking in with Loot Fright support to see if they will be returning to their old shipping model. Plus…will t-shirts come back? The last “box” included a scarf, which while it is an accessory, it’s not a t-shirt like we were expecting. Receiving three items at the price of that subscription–not cool.

If I was a returning customer, I’d really think twice about proceeding with Loot Fright. Something just…didn’t go right. So at this time…I would not recommend subscribing to Loot Fright until they have better communication around changes in their products.
