Don’t Like Shopping In Stores? Get Help From a Stylist With Stitch Fix!
Even before the pandemic, I wasn’t a huge fan of shopping in stores. I had to be in a particular mood to shop and that’s mostly because of my confidence in finding something that would make me feel good about myself. Raise your hand if your day got ruined when you tried on a pair of pants that didn’t fit as well as you’d like?
Yeah, I know I’m not the only one with that feeling.
I’ve always had a hard time finding clothes that compliment my figure, so I decided to put my trust in a stylist over at Stitch Fix.
For those not familiar with the service, Stitch Fix is a subscription stylist service. It is one of the few that provides the service of helping you style in a way that works best for you, your lifestyle, and body type, and of course, your budget!
Here’s How It Works!
To start off, Stitch Fix offers stylist services to wardrobes catering to men, women, and children.
Like many subscription boxes, the service tries to get to know you. Everyone has a different style and sometimes styles overlap, right? As you begin your style quiz, you’re given a handful of outfit examples to help determine if the proposed looks interest you. Aside from actually seeing the clothing types, you are asked questions about your lifestyle and comfort levels, which help paint a clearer picture of what would work best for you, and how far you’re willing to venture out of your comfort zone.
Even after this survey, you’re still given a chance to pick the items that get sent to you. It’s seriously just like going to the store, picking out a few items, and choosing what you’d like. This survey is meant to familiarize your stylist with the types of items that you like. Once the box gets to you, it’s all about how you feel when you try it all on.
These boxes come with a complete outfit. I selected that I’d be open to receiving, pants, shirts, dresses, and shoes. You can also elect to receive other accessories. For me, with my current wardrobe needs, I didn’t need to focus on accessories, but pieces that could be used for multiple outfits. With you guys seeing me a lot more often in videos–I gotta look decent, right? Haha 🙂
Stylist Services On a Budget? Can Do!
It doesn’t matter if we’re in the middle of a pandemic or not, budgets remain a priority to many of us. During a time like this, budgets may be even tighter. I approached Stitch Fix with caution because I am quite picky with my clothing preferences. Luckily, this service allows you to try on the clothes and return any unwanted items in 3 business days in a pre-paid envelope. I think of it just like going to the store and trying on clothes in a fitting room. Except that you’re in the comfort of your own home. I don’t know–sometimes those fitting room mirrors know exactly how to ruin your day.
My experience with Stitch Fix respected my budget by following the “the cheaper the better” option. I like to know my clothes are of decent quality, however, I had no interest in spending over 100 USD on a single item. My entire box was valued at 271 USD. Once you try everything on, you may choose to keep none of the items, a couple, or maybe even all of them. If you choose to keep all the items, you receive a 25% discount on the final price. In the end, I ended up paying 196 USD for all my items because I chose to keep everything.
If you are comfortable with having more wiggle room in your budget, you can absolutely make that adjustment under your Style Profile at any time.
Communication With a Remote Stylist
Many people would ask how is it that someone can pick out clothes perfect for you without ever seeing you? Well, that’s the importance of that stylist survey when you start up with Stitch Fix. Plus, you have the opportunity to provide as much detail as you’d like on your profile for your stylist to see. Before you even receive this box, you can confirm that you like the selections. I didn’t like all the options provided for me, but my stylist added an additional item to my box that she thought I’d enjoy. Spoiler alert: I loved it all!
Now, I can communicate with my stylist when my box is sent to me every other month. I am sincerely excited to see what will be in my next box. Am I expecting to love it all? No, but I am open and willing to see what she’ll put together for me.
Grey’s Thoughts On Stitch Fix…
When I review a new subscription box, I record an unboxing video. On average, this takes me about 2 hours to get enough content for a 5-15 minute video. Well, in this case, I had to finish my Stitch Fix recording in two sessions because I got distracted and put on a fashion show for my Mom via Facetime. It was only the next day when I was reviewing my videos that I realized I was missing half of it! Needless to say, my experience with my first box has been great. I felt so confident and comfortable in everything that I wore that I honestly look forward to dressing up even for a walk down to the grocery store.
I sincerely appreciated how thorough the stylist survey was and that I was given a chance for final confirmation on the stylist picks. I truly thought that my stylist understood what I liked and allowed me to step out of my comfort zone a little bit.
I’ll absolutely continue on with this service, and I’ll be sure to include my experiences going forward on my socials.
All in all, if you’re looking for some style direction and don’t want to burn yourself out by getting lost in stores–give a stylist service like Stitch Fix a try. If you don’t like what is selected, you can return it all.
