Deconstruct a Burrito, So Why Not a Burger? Say Hello To The Burger Bowl!
Burgers are delicious, but certainly not something we should be having every day. So, why not take the best parts of a burger and put it together in a salad? I kid you not that you’ll be racing after reading this review to make this recipe. The ground beef mixture alone tastes like a cheeseburger. I honestly look forward to making it again. I do have my own dietary restrictions, so I’ll offer some of my recommendations as well for those who still need to adjust recipes they like to follow.
This recipe for a burger bowl comes courtesy of House of Yumm. You can find the recipe right -> here!
All The Deliciousness of A Burger Minus The Bun
Whether you’re looking to keep carbs down or not able to have grains in your diet, this recipe is an absolute delight. I cannot stress that enough. This recipe calls for all the best parts of the burger. You have your greens, your pickles, tomatoes, cheese, the ground beef, and of course–the burger sauce. This comes together just like a burrito bowl at Chipotle, except for that it’s a burger!
It’s perfectly filling and doesn’t make you feel like you’re eating a bland salad. What I do have to praise the most, however, is the actual ground beef mixture. Oh my goodness–I cannot begin to tell you how good it is. Normally when you’re making a quick burger bowl, you’ll focus on the separate ingredients tossed into the salad. But this recipe? No way–you jazz this mixture up by adding cheddar into the ground beef mixture and I kid you not–it tastes just like a cheeseburger.
Are you racing to check your fridge for the ingredients yet? I wouldn’t blame you.
Burger Sauce With Some Adjustments
The burger sauce linked in the recipe is excellent! It tastes just like a Big Mac sauce you’d get at McDonald’s. Plus, you can store the leftovers in your fridge to use for something else. If you have no dietary restrictions and can follow this recipe without any issue–DO IT! You will absolutely not regret it.
I couldn’t use the burger sauce exactly as it was written in the recipe as I am experiencing some digestive issues that my doctors are trying to get to the bottom of. However, that did not stop me from adjusting this recipe to still enjoy it.
I haven’t been able to digest anything that is high in fat, such as mayonnaise or heavy cream. Luckily, I’ve been okay with cheese! Phew! Anywho, in order to still get the flavor of this sauce, I ended up swapping mayo with greek yogurt. It obviously will not taste the same, but it will help with texture as well as some of that bite that you’d get from mayo.
As an alternative to mayo, the greek yogurt works quite well, too! Just as a tested recommendation for anyone trying to avoid mayo. If you’re not gluten-free and don’t want to use mayo, then consider trying vegan mayo, too.
Grey’s Grade: 5/5
If you are looking for a quick weeknight meal, then this recipe is going to satisfy your tastebuds. The combination of the greens, pickles, tomatoes, cheese, and of course–the ground beef mixture, truly do satisfy the craving for a burger with a fraction of the calories. Absolutely simple to make but bursting with so much flavor. I am definitely adding this one to my list of go-to recipes on days where I am really low on time in the kitchen.
If you cannot have the burger sauce as it is listed, feel free to try my recommendations. This sauce really does step up the burger bowl to an entirely new level.
