♪ Brunch, Brunch, Baby! ♪
If the thought of a delicious brunch accompanied by fresh fruit and mimosas doesn’t get you singing, then I think you need to keep reading to check out the recipe I reviewed for brunch recently.
After a recent and unplanned exposure to gluten, I was out of commission for three days. Awful migraines, terrible stomach pains, unbearable nausea, and fatigue–it was all there. I made the decision to finally get the needed blood work done to see if my suspicions will be confirmed. Regardless, eating gluten-free has helped me significantly! No pains, no headaches, and a butt-load of motivation to search out recipes that will WOW your family.
If this is something new you’re going through, then believe me–I’m right there with you. This is a learning experience of what you can cook with, what you can eat, and how the heck should you order out now?
Each week I hope to add at least one recipe you will try and hopefully enjoy as much as we do here at home.
So let’s get to Brunch-ing okay? Today we’re starting with a Dutch Baby Pancake!
Today’s recipe review comes courtesy of A Foodie Stays Fit, and you can find the recipe right > here!
Does the Batter Need to be Complex With Different Gluten-Free Substitutes?
No. Plain and simple, my friends. Honestly, while looking for these recipe ideas for reviews, I get overwhelmed reading all the requirements. Tapioca starch, almond flour, xanthan gum–just….make it simple for me, okay? It’s a Dutch Baby. It’s super simple with regular flour, so why can’t it be the same when making a gluten-free version?
Well, it can. Another reason I will be using this recipe again. This recipe calls for Pamela’s All-Purpose Gluten-Free Flour. I ended up using Cup4Cup Gluten-Free Flour that I got from Whole Foods. It has worked wonders with the few things I’ve made using it.
There’s nothing wrong with using all the other ingredients, but sometimes in all of life’s craziness, you want to use good ‘ole all-purpose flour. And luckily–there’s plenty of brands that make it nice and simple for you. Cup4Cup simply being my new go-to :).
Comparing a Regular Dutch Baby Against the Gluten-Free Dutch Baby
My mom loves making Dutch Baby pancakes, so needless to say…I’ve had a good amount to use as a comparison. The best part about this type of pancake is the crisp top and soft interior. With this gluten-free recipe–it’s just the same! I kid you not. Enjoy the deliciousness of a Dutch Baby pancake without the worry of irritating a gluten intolerance.
If you’re expecting a change in flavor simply due to a different flour being used, then I assure you…you’ll be disappointed in the best way. If I were to have two Dutch Baby pancakes side by side, I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Now, because of gluten not being my friend, I’d stick to this recipe ;).
Grey’s Grade: 5/5
I’ve never been a huge fan of the sweeter side of breakfast, but I’d be lying if I didn’t enjoy a great Dutch Baby pancake with some mimosas. Doesn’t matter if it’s a special occasion or just another weekend spent at home. This will be an absolutely delicious treat all while being conscious of your dietary restrictions.
So, if you’re looking for something simple to make this weekend, consider checking out this recipe by A Foodie Stays Fit. It’s quick to make, delicious, easily customizable (keeping it sweet or making it savory), and enough to wow your household. The flavor is so incredibly satisfying and I personally cannot wait to make this again.
