The American Cocktail Club: Cocktail Making Perfect For Any Level
Hello friends!
I don’t know about you, but this pandemic certainly forced us to be a bit more creative in the drink department. My husband and I loved going out to local bars and cocktail lounges in the city before all this COVID stuff started. On our first date we actually spent a good portion of the evening at a phenomenal cocktail lounge called The Violet Hour. If you’ve never been and are in Chicago, then I highly recommend it.
Getting back to the point–I feel like many of us picked up the hobby of mixing our own drinks. After a while, we do tend to look for more ideas. This is where this delightful subscription box comes in handy!
My friends, say hello to The American Cocktail Club.
You can find a direct link to their website here, or you can also find them on CrateJoy like I did.
What Type Of Club Is This?
This is a subscription service that sends out featured cocktail recipes. These boxes come with a printed-out recipe card along with ingredients specific to the cocktail, such as a pre-made mix, garnishes, and even the required alcohol (if you choose to include it–more details about that below).
So needless to say, if you do not consume alcohol, then this box may not be the one for you. However, this would make for a brilliant gift for someone turning 21 (in the US), or perhaps a fun holiday gift. I love any subscription that encourages you to learn something new. Frankly, it’s better than something you’re not going to get much use out of.
Okay, But What’s The Price?
Just like any other subscription box, you’re given the option of a tiered subscription service. Being able to pick between monthly and multi-month pre-pay all the way up to a year, which I feel allows some flexibility. For testing purposes, of course, I have picked the monthly subscription. Twice, actually. I had this subscription early this summer but ended up indulging before completing a proper review. After my first experience with it, I found that this service deserved a proper review.
For the price of about 59.99 USD, you get 4 drinks, or two servings per person of the cocktail included in the box. That comes out to be about 15 USD per serving, around the average price of a “cocktail lounge” quality drink. At least from my experience. These won’t be the typical vodka lemonades you get at bars.
If this box included plain drinks like that, then you’d have heard me screaming from the start. 😉
Now, if you end up going with the annual subscription, then you’re likely to save a few dollars per month. Really depends on what you’re looking to get out of this subscription. For me, I feel like I definitely got my money’s worth. I received two recipes, all the required alcohol, and garnishes to make restaurant-quality cocktails at home without needing to buy anything extra.
Here is the breakdown of prices that you can find on their website for subscription boxes specifically:
Everything Box – Alcohol Included
- Monthly – 59.99 USD
- 3 Month – 173.99 USD
- 6 Month – 335.94 USD
- 12 Month – 647.88 USD
Everything But The Booze – No Alcohol Included
- Monthly – 49.99 USD
- 3 Month – 143.97 USD
- 6 Month – 275.94 USD
- 12 Month – 527.88 USD
Not Interested In The Subscription Box?
If you’re not in the market for a subscription box with the American Cocktail Club, then you may want to take a look at their web store. You can purchase one-time boxes, which contain the same contents of the subscription boxes. If you’d prefer to avoid that altogether, then you can buy pre-mixed cocktails, bar tools, mixers, and even gift cards.
While the subscription box is the main focus of American Cocktail Club, I think it’s a nice touch to have a separate store for “one-time” and select purchases. That certainly brings up the value of the company, in my eyes at least!
Grey’s Final Thoughts–Is It Worth It?
Above I’ve covered what this service is, how much it costs, and what else you can get out of it beside just the subscription box. So, is it worth it? From my experience I think that this box is worth a try for a month or two, and perhaps a few purchases from their web store. I think it’s a cool concept for a gift for someone who enjoys cocktails or is interested in trying something new.
The two months that I have tried this box, I had a great experience. Everything came as advertised. I had enough of each ingredient and the drinks were yummy! So in terms of quality, this box is fantastic. I had absolutely zero complaints.
But would I recommend this as a recurring service? Probably not.
I think this makes for a great gift or a fun service to try, but once you try a few cocktails, it ends up being cheaper to pick up a cocktail book, or even look up recipes online than to spend money on one cocktail. Same thing with the liquor. Once you buy a bigger bottle, you end up getting more value than just waiting each month for the small 50 mL bottles.
The final decision does come down to what you’re looking to get out of this box. If you have the extra budget for a service like this, go for it. If you’re looking for a fun gift idea, go for it. If you’re looking to get your fancy drink fix strictly from a subscription box, then maybe think about it and check for cheaper alternatives.
