Trader Joe’s Beef Birria
Hello friends!
Happy New Year!! I hope you are all doing well as we approach the second half of January! As this new year is certainly well underway, I already feel myself hitting a bump in the road–what the hell do I make for dinner?! You’d think that a brand new year would yield more excitement, but alas…I am human.
While I love finding new recipes to make and review, I am always on the lookout for pantry staples that help turn a “I don’t know what to make for dinner” kind of day into “Hold on, I know exactly what to make”. I know I’m not the only one feeling like this, so allow me to share one of my FAVORITE Trader Joe’s products.
If you have a Trader Joe’s near you, then you have likely seen this product: Beef Birria. It is located in the freezer aisle and can very comfortably feed 2 people. You can purchase it for 7.99 USD (check your local store for current price).

Flavor Of The Beef Birria
I’ve had authentic beef birria at local Mexican restaurants, so I had an idea of what to expect when I first tried this frozen protein. In order for this to be good, the beef needed to be super tender and the broth that it was in had to be well-seasoned and perfect for dipping tacos in. Does this Trader Joe’s shortcut do the trick?
YUP.
I admit I am skeptical of many things that call for preparation in a microwave. Appetizers and snacks–sure, but beef? BEEF BIRRIA?! Come on. I was so incredibly shocked to enjoy it as much as I did. I’ve heard plenty of feedback over the last year of people thoroughly enjoying this product and to this day–I will continue to recommend it.
Now, nothing will truly substitute the flavor of beef birria that you make from scratch, but when the craving hits…this will do in a pinch!
How To Serve The Beef Birria?
When I first heard of his product, I admit I saw a handful of Tiktok videos of people using the beef birria from Trader Joe’s in ramen. The delicious tender beef, the broth, and ramen noodles that are topped with onion, jalapeño, and some cilantro? Woah…game changer.
That is most certainly not the traditional way to consume this, but it was delicious! I ended up warming up the broth from the beef birria with some more chicken broth, or whatever broth I had on hand. It helped put dinner on the table a few times when I just didn’t feel like actually…cooking.
Of course, my favorite way of serving this is as beef birria tacos! These tacos can be prepared so quickly as the beef birria is ready to go. You can coat the tortilla in the broth from the beef and cook it in a pan to toast up a bit. Fill it with some beef, some cheese, and let it melt together before moving onto a plate. Once the inside is nice warm and melty, you can add in any additional toppings, like diced onion, cilantro, and lime. Truly some of my favorites!
I only needed a few sentences to describe how I prepare these tacos because it really is that simple when you have the shortcut of the Trader Joe’s Beef Birria.
Grey’s Grade: 5/5
When it comes to frozen dishes, I think this Beef Birria from Trader Joe’s deserves the full 5/5 without even a moment of hesitation. This is a product I’ve had in my freezer on multiple occasions to help with meals when I needed to throw together something quickly. I’ve recommended this to all of my friends and frankly, anyone who asked for ideas on what to make for dinner that doesn’t require too much effort.
Look, I get it. Making things from scratch is delicious and alway better, especially when you’re able to control the level of seasoning, but do we always have that time? No. If there are great options that you can have on hand to still have a delicious meal on the table, I will not be gatekeeping anything of that sort!
So, if I haven’t sold you already, I urge you…check your local Trader Joe’s for the Beef Birria located in the freezer aisle. I sincerely hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!
