TrueHealthLabs.com – Online Lab Testing Upon YOUR Request
You may be used to seeing my weekly recipe and subscription box reviews, but sometimes one feels the need to share a bit more beyond that. This past year urged me to take a closer look at my health. I don’t know, but being inside most of the time and being hyper-observant of what I cook started raising some red flags to how my body was reacting. That’s why I decided to check out TrueHealthLabs to address my concerns.
Let’s back up a little bit.
For as long as I could remember, I had trouble losing weight. I was never extremely overweight, but I struggled with losing weight even when combined with diet and exercise. It just didn’t seem right that I was working so hard and showing very little results. Something wasn’t adding up. Now when we’re inside most of the time, I cook all our meals and unfortunately don’t exercise as much as I used to. However, I am not eating more. Despite that, I put on almost 20 lbs. My mom kept urging me to get my thyroid tested.
See–I have a bit of family history around thyroid issues. The majority of the women in my family (on both sides) have had some sort of issue with their thyroid that needed to be treated. I had requested two of my doctors for a full panel thyroid test, but each time was told the same.
“We can do the regular thyroid test. If one of the hormones comes back as abnormal, then we’ll order the full panel”
and
“Your insurance wouldn’t cover a full-panel”.
You’d think they would listen after bringing up a family history. You’d think they would listen to a patient’s request. Money wasn’t an issue when it meant getting answers.
But both tests were done and my results came back normal. I had no answers.
Fast-forward to this past January. I decided that I was done asking doctors and I was going to get this test done privately. Enough was enough when I felt deep down something out of the ordinary was happening. I ended up ordering a lab request form from TrueHealthLabs. I paid about 400 USD (including taxes), but every penny was worth it because I now have test results with a handful of red exclamation points that say something is indeed not normal.
When Should I Use A Site Like This?
TrueHealthLabs.com makes “lab testing directly available to those who are uninsured, underinsured, whose doctor refuses to order tests, and those who simply want to make their own healthcare choices” (About TrueHealthLabs.com). In my case, my request for a complete thyroid test was not honored by two doctors, which is why I decided to seek out this service. If you’re finding that you’re not getting the tests you’re requesting, then it may be worth doing this privately and then consult with your primary doctor. I ended up doing that and immediately got referred to an endocrinologist. I wish I would have done this years ago.
The reason I chose TrueHealthLabs instead of an “at home” test, is that there is a referral to an actual lab where bloodwork is drawn. I’ve seen the finger-prick tests for food sensitivity, which wouldn’t be right for a thyroid test, or any test, to be frank. My thyroid test required 4 full vials of my blood. That’s how I knew I was finally getting a full, legitimate test done. I am so thankful. If you’re worried about finding a location for the blood draw–TrueHealthLabs.com can help locate the nearest clinic for you. Mine was only 7 minutes away!
Also, if you have any questions, you can absolutely call TrueHealthLab’s excellent customer service team. As for your results? You may take them to your primary doctor, or pay an additional fee to have a doctor at TrueHealthLabs go over your test results. I decided to see my own doctor.
So if you’re in a similar situation and your doctor is refusing to order the tests you’re requesting–take a chance on this website rather than the at-home finger-prick tests. Because of this, I now have an appointment in April to look into the treatment of my thyroid.
We deserve to take charge of our own health.
