Great Eats Even In Quarantine: Nashville Un-fried Hot Chicken

Hello everyone! I hope you’re doing well. If you’re like me, then you’re definitely feeling your anxiety levels rising. In this time, it’s incredibly important that we spend some extra time for ourselves. Take that extra moment to close your eyes and breathe in deeply. Try something new that keep your mind occupied, but more importantly, don’t lose touch with those you haven’t seen because of this.

My distraction has been cooking and it has definitely helped. Not all for reviewing, but just enjoying the combinations of flavors. Who knows, maybe one of these posts will be a recipe of my own!

Anyway, let’s get to the real important part of this blog! The review!

Today we are reviewing another awesome recipe from The Defined Dish. Say hello to Nashville Un-Fried Hot Chicken!

You can find the recipe right -> here!

Bring Nashville Home

I’ve personally never been to Nashville, but if the chicken is as good as this recipe is, then I cannot wait for this quarantine to be over so we can try this for ourselves! Delicious!

In the meantime, I highly recommend that you follow Alex’s recipe and enjoy every single bite of it. Your family will love it!

For this recipe you ABSOLUTELY need chicken thighs with the skin on. That crispy skin coated in the hot sauce is divine!

I found that the cooking instructions for the chicken were spot on. Obviously, please be mindful of what kind of oven you have and even your stove top. Each oven is different and it can absolutely affect cooking times. I use an electric oven, so I ended up cooking the chicken in the oven a couple minutes longer to ensure that it was cooked all the way through. Once finished, those extra few minutes made the skins extra crisp and the meat juicy and not at all dried out. Also, that’s the magic of chicken thighs, no?

Also, if you’re like me and don’t have a large cast iron pan, be sure to cook the chicken skin-side down in batches, so each thigh gets a good crispy skin. Later on when you’re baking the chicken, you can squeeze them all in. But don’t get too crazy! I managed to fit five chicken thighs in the cast iron and they were nice and snug.

Was It Really “Hot” Chicken?

The recipe for the hot sauce provided on the recipe was great! It was the perfect level of spice, but you can absolutely adjust it as you want to. Add more or less tabasco, and the same with the remaining spices. As all fried or “un-fried” chicken, be sure to coat the chicken right before serving to ensure that the crispy skin stays crispy and doesn’t turn soggy.

Grey’s Grade: 5/5

As un-fried chicken goes, this was absolutely excellent. It came together very quickly, which is definitely something that I always look for. If you’re looking to try something new and often rely on the instructions, you can definitely trust Alex’s recipes. From all the recipes I’ve tried by her, I had great success. She brings delightful flavors into the home kitchen. I am definitely going to be adding this recipe to my collection of successes.
