From team building activities to date nights, Escape Rooms have definitely earned a reputation that continues to draw many people in for each new scenario. Now, for those of us who don’t always want to go out to these rooms, there’s a solution for that!
Say hello to this months’ subscription box: Escape The Crate
This subscription takes the fun of these escape rooms and brings them into the comfort of your home, or wherever you may be! Solve puzzles, murders, and much more on your own or with a group.
How Does This Work Without An Actual Room?
When this box won my monthly review poll, I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. I was very pleasantly surprised when I did my unboxing video because it all came together so well. This box includes instructions, as well as clues that make the puzzle/mystery appear more tangible. Rather than having the story as part of the props, there is a website that you and your team will access. To keep it spoiler-free, the website has a password, which grants access to the scenario, as well as the ability to reset it if you’d like to play it again.
While you may not have a room full of clues that immerse you in the scenario, I think this is just like reading a book. You may not see or feel what is happening in every part of the story, but you can imagine yourself as part of it. You have to use a bit of imagination, but that just makes it more fun, right? Exactly. In this case, you get a little bit of help because you have actual props.
Escape Room Quality In A Box? What About The Props?
As you can see in the picture above, the box contains multiple props that go along with your scenario. While you may not have an overflowing box of items, these play a key role in the story. I think for this type of subscription, the quality is awesome. You get items that you can pick up and touch. These aren’t pictures of masks or beads, but actual items.
I thought that was a really awesome addition!
How Does The Subscription Work?
Escape the Crate is a bi-monthly subscription box. Depending on your subscription tier, you may receive anywhere from 1 to 6 crates. If you don’t want to sign up for a subscription, you can absolutely purchase any of the retired scenarios that are available. I think this is a nice feature, especially if there are some already released stories that you wanted to try. You don’t feel like you missed out.
For review purposes, I ended up picking the two-month plan, which got me 1 story. While this is not the cheapest subscription box, there are ways to save a couple of dollars, such as by looking up for coupon codes.
Is This Worth Checking Out?
I’ll say this, if you enjoy puzzles, then I would highly recommend this subscription box.
If you love escape rooms, then I would absolutely recommend this box.
If you intend on doing this on your own, I won’t say that it’s impossible, but it’s certainly more fun with a group. Just like the real escape rooms you can visit, this box makes for a great team-building exercise or just a fun activity to do with friends and family.
Another pro to this box is that it’s not a one and done kind of deal. You can absolutely replay this scenario. Now that definitely adds more value to this subscription.
If you decide to check this box out, feel free to let me know what you think of it!
