One of the things I love about living in Chicago is the amazing variety of restaurants and hangouts that seem to be around every corner. Okay, maybe not every corner, but there are plenty for you to plan a weekend around!
It was recently Andy’s birthday, so we checked out some new places, one of which was SafeHouse!
If you’re a James Bond fan or simply a fan of spies and technology, I’d highly recommend this fun establishment. To start off, if you don’t have a password to get in, you’ll have to prove to Control that you’re not a double-agent!
I think that kind of immersion in the Secret Agent role from the start is absolutely brilliant. And what’s better is that it can be enjoyed by agents of all ages. That’s right–there’s no need to call a sitter to enjoy this experience!
Now, don’t think that this is geared towards children. I certainly wouldn’t put it in that category.
The entire restaurant is decorated in spy memorabilia and that is not only limited to the entrance and the walls dividing each dining section. This is a place that absolutely encourages you to check out every nook and cranny. There’s something neat hiding around the corner, and yes, even in the bathrooms. SafeHouse has a mens, women’s, and unisex bathrooms.
Take it from me…please DO check out the unisex bathroom.
Does SafeHouse Actually Have Good Food?
Obviously SafeHouse is still a restaurant, so let’s talk about their menu. Just because this is a themed restaurant doesn’t mean you’re getting a bland menu for the sake of just having food. Start yourself off with some drinks, like we did, and browse the menu. You can get some sweet appetizers, a sandwich, a burger, salad, and full-on entrees. And yes, you lovely mimosa lovers–SafeHouse has a brunch menu!
We were there in the evening on a Sunday, so we enjoyed the regular dinner menu. I was craving the GoldFinger grilled cheese (it had cheese curds inside, guys!) and Andy went with the Mission Impossible Burger. Both of our orders came out nice and warm and were satisfying.
But before we actually sat down to enjoy our food, our waiter encouraged us to grab our drinks and walk around the restaurant to participate in a scavenger hunt. Obviously, if you just want to sit around and wait for your food…you can. But come on! You’re in a spy-themed restaurant with so many things to interact with! You’d regret not checking it all out.
Especially if you’re like Andy…you may regret not hitting the “Self-Destruct” button…twice.
Does All Of This Add Up To A Crazy Bill?
Not really! When we received our check, I was honestly expecting a bit more, but I think everything is very reasonably priced. The quality was great and the overall spy experience was worth every dollar spent. If you’re on the fence about checking this place out, just now that I will give you a hint on how you can save 20% off your first will. Click on the image below and it will take you to the sign-up page for SafeHouse’s V.I.O (Very Important Operative) club. And yes…it’s free to sign up!
There’s plenty of good perks for signing up for this club, so why not go ahead and do it. You’ll save some money along the way and get to enjoy this awesome restaurant. You’ll find yourself recommending it to others just as I am recommending it to you!
Grey’s Grade: 5/5
I’ll be honest, we’ve been wanting to check this place out for quite some time. I’m very happy that we did, because it absolutely did not disappoint. From start to finish, this entire experience was fantastic. Even if you don’t like James Bond, it’s worth checking it out for the overall ambiance of SafeHouse. I’m not a food critic or hot spot researcher–I’m just your average woman looking to have a great time.
Take a chance and check this place out.
You won’t regret it.
Safe missions, agents!
